Killeigh Parish Community Games:
Killeigh Parish Community Games 2015 Roundup
2015 has been another great year for the children of Killeigh Parish in community games and the parish continues to build each year and enjoy great success in local, county and national competitions. This year the children were involved in Athletics, Swimming, Gymnastics, Tag Rugby, Soccer, Indoor Soccer, Futsal, GAA Football, Hurling, Camoige, Art, Handwriting, Talent, Quiz, Chess and Badminton. When the parish re-entered the games in May 2010, it was involved in just Athletics, Swimming and Gymnastics. 2014 ended with Killeigh Parish Community Games (KPCG) being awarded the national award for the being the area/parish with the most participation in Offaly which is huge honour. Every year since May 2010 the Parish has reached National finals and winning national medals each year with this year being no different. As a group we aim to get children involved in sport and cultural events and our focus has always been on our mantra of Fitness, Friendship and Fun with the medal success being the cream on top.
This year the parish has entered
U12 Boys Soccer (Silver medal in County)

Camoige (First year to enter and building a team)
Athletics (22 Gold (inc 3 relay teams), 12 silver (inc 1 relay team) and 4 bronze in County finals ) Badminton (Medal winners)The BU16 relay team were placed 6th in the National Final this is a huge achievement for a team that that are not in an athletics club and only play football. The GU16 team were placed in the medal winners (4) in final despite an illness in the team which meant the last place runner could not run. We had a boy and girl in the under 16 100 and 200m and both placed 5 in the semi- final. A great achievement for these boys and girls who have finished out their community games career competing in some cases all the finals since 2010. Unfortunately a lane infringement put our U12 boys out of the national relay competition but thankfully they will come back and hopefully reach the finals again next year.We would like to thank the outgoing U16’s who have been competing with the parish since 2010 and have achieved some great results in all the competitions they entered. Best of luck to Emma Darby, Lauren Gorry, Shauna Sweeney and Megan Burns, and the boys Jamie Ballesty, Jack Sheil, Brian Keogh, Anthony Malone and Shane Finneran. We would also like to thank Sean Sweeney who has trained our relay teams since 2010. Sean has been instrumental in securing great results with the relay teams every year. He coached the teams who won national medals in GU12 (2011) GU14 (2013), Mixed U15 (2014), GU16 (2015)Sean has the right blend of experience, qualifications and dedication to lead the relay teams.Additionally we would like to acknowledge the work that Eamonn Henry of the Offaly Sports partnership did in the initial stages of our development and his discovery of the talent we had in our parish.
Thank you also for his continued support in a mentor capacity.
